SHIPIBO Rattle

Traditional Ceremonial Maracas Ratchets handmade by the Shipibo Tribe in the Peruvian Amazon - Small

The body is made of a gourd and the handle of the Chonta Tree. They are filled with Ahira seeds and decorated with traditional Shipibo patterns. These are traditional Icaros patterns sung by shamans during Ayahuasca ceremonies.

Traditionally, the shaman receives melodies and ornamental lines from the transcendent world during an ayahuasca ceremony. He shares the graphic patterns called quené with the women of the community. The Shipibo women materialize the quené on textiles, barrels or rattles. The latter help the healer to go into a trance and are used to harmonise the world and people.
